Applied Entrepreneurship Academy

A new alliance between the University of Applied Sciences in Neu-Ulm, Germany (HNU) and the Kenyatta University (KU) has formed an applied entrepreneurship academy project over the course of three years.

The aim with this education program is to enable students to meet the market demands by equipping them with necessary business and entrepreneurial skills as well as practical leadership experience. Students are required to theoretically develop their own business ideas and then put them into practice in order to run their own micro businesses in the field.

The goal of this project is to:

  • Develop education for entrepreneurship
  • Enable integration of entrepreneurial & innovation subjects into regular seminars
  • Support definition of thesis projects with entrepreneurial character
  • Increase number of successful start-ups established by KU students and graduates
  • Bring innovation and innovative thinking to KU´s young graduates and support the further development of the country

This project is supported by partners like the Chandaria Industries, Booth Extrusions, Rauch Solar and is being sponsored by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the Federal Ministry for Economy Cooperation and Development.

With the applied entrepreneurship academy the students aquire skills in the areas of:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Design thinking
  • Market data acquisition and analysis
  • Logistics and distribution

The project kick-off started in May 2017, followed by lectures, students projects and workshops. The final evaluation and wrap-up is set for November 2020. The locations are divided between the campuses in Nairobi and Neu-Ulm.
