Application and start of studies

The degree programme starts each winter semester.

The next start for the degree program is in October 2018.

May, 2nd to August, 31st.

Admission Requirements Master of Business Intelligence and Business Analytics (BIA)

What entrance qualification do I need?

You have to have an academic degree that amounts 210 ECTS-credits (equivalent to 3.5 years of full-time studies).

If you have your degree from outside the German education system, please note the additional rules for International Applicants.

My academic degree amounts to less than 210 ECTS. What can I do?

You need an academic degree with 210 ECTS. In case of a degree with only 180 ECTS credits (equivalent to 3 years of full-time studies), the existing skills gap of 30 ECTS credits must be bridged by proving to meet at least one of the following remediary requirements:

  • (Co-)authorship of research publications in English (Research Paper)
  • proof of at least 6 months full-time professional experience after obtaining the Bachelor's degree. The work experience has to be in a field relevant to the content of the study course (please provide employment and / or job references)
  • Successful completion of an entrance examination that consists of a written scientific draft in English. To take this entrance examination you have to request it (in English and exclusively via e-mail) no later than the respective application deadline.

For the appropriate documentation, please contact the head of the study course, Prof. Dr. Olaf Jacob.

What grade do I need?

The grade of your academic degree has to be the equivalent to a German 2.3 (as a rule of thumb: roughly comparable to 78%-79% of a total of 100%).

If you have your degree from outside the German education system, please note the additional rules for International Applicants.

If my grade isn't good enough, can I improve it somehow?

Unfortunately, there is no way to get admitted if the grade of your academic degree isn't 2.3 or better.

Did you check hochschulkompass.de for study courses with differnt admission requirements?

Which skills are required?

You have to prove skills in the fields of informatics/computer science and information management that amount to 30 ECTS credits. These 30 credits (or equivalent) have to be earned as part of a previous degree course at a public or officially recognised institution of higher education.

These 30 ECTS have to consist of ...

  • at least 5 ECTS from business information systems, IT- or information management.
  • at least 5 ECTS from practical informatics / data processing / software development or similar subjects (e.g. programming, databases, software engineering).
  • at least 3 ECTS from maths / statistics / quantitative methods or similar subjects.
Which language skills do I need?

In our english-speaking Master's degree courses, you have to prove English skills on level B2 when you apply. You can do this in different ways:

  • you provide the appropriate results of a recognized English test (e.g. at least 90 points in TOEFL-IBT)
  • your school degree or your academic degree show that you got the qualification there as part of your studies
  • you graduated in a degree course that was taught entirely in English
  • you can prove that you are a native speaker of English.

If you aren't a native speaker in German, you have to prove German knowledge on level A1 upon enrollment.

Do I have to pay study fees?

No, this degree course is free of charge. This also applies to students from non-EU countries.

There is, however, a fee you have to pay at enrollment and at every re-registration. You can learn more about this fee on this page.
