The field of business information systems combines business studies with information systems. Its subject is the deployment of information and communication technologies in companies as well as organisations. The degree programme enables students to design and implement such information systems by providing knowledge about business subjects and methods, application-oriented IT skills, project tasks as well as intercultural exercises and presentation training.
Two universities of applied sciences combine their expertise and offer the degree programme together. The Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) teaches the business-related subjects, whereas the technologically-oriented courses take place at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences. The broad scope of international relations of both universities allows individual students to organise their international exchange and internship semesters abroad according to their own wishes and study requirements.
Students profit from the resources and activities of both universities such as research facilities, libraries, elective courses, childcare services, cultural programmes (orchestra, chambre choir, band, jazz combo) and events (international excursions, specialist presentations and parties).
As a business information technologist you will know the programming techniques of information systems and also have profound knowledge of the business applications, i.e. the functions and processes in industry, commerce and financial corporations. Classical tasks are:
- application development for company information systems
- IT consulting for creating and managing business information systems as well as defining and implementing business processes on the basis of modern IT systems
- distribution of IT products and services
- training people to use new software expertly
- project management of IT implementation and development projects
- technological management
