Data Privacy Statement
Please observe the following when accessing our websites:
Whenever the HNU websites are accessed and files retrieved, the following data are logged and evaluated for statistical purposes:
- the address (URL) of the website retrieving the file
- the name of the file retrieved
- date and time of retrieving
- amount of data transferred
- access status (file transferred, file not found etc.)
- description of the browser and/or the operating system used
- the shortened IP-address
The IP-address is shortened by the last two bytes as soon as the address has been retrieved.
Example: 126.96.36.199 will become 188.8.131.52
Personal user profiles cannot be created with the IP-addresses stored in a shortened form.
When the HNU websites are accessed, a session cookie is set automatically that will be deleted automatically when your browser is closed. The cookie is only used for navigating and displaying the websites. This information will not be available in later browser sessions. Data are not stored and access characteristics of the users are not evaluated. It is possible to use the website when cookies have been turned off.
For our own internal statistics the HNU uses PIWIK, an open source software for statistical analysis of visitors. Piwik uses so-called 'Cookies', text files that are stored on your computer and help to analyze how users use the website. The information about how you use the website, which is generated by the cookie, is only stored on the server of the HNU. The IP address is anonymized immediately after processing and before storage. This prevents the IP number of your computer from being stored in our statistics.
The stored data are statistically analyzed to design and develop our website as needed. The data will be used only for this purpose and erased after evaluation.
When you send us an email, your mail address is used only for corresponding. It is not used otherwise or passed on to third parties. Should you want to send us an email worthy of protection, we strongly recommend that you encrypt it to prevent the content being noted or distorted without authorization while it is transmitted.
Data for the dispatch of newsletters (email)
With the HNU newsletters, the HNU provides information about the areas of study, teaching and research. In order to receive newsletters, you have to give a valid email address, which is stored by the HNU. Other personal data can be given on a voluntary basis. The user has the possibility to give his/her address and in an additional step he or she can grant consent for the receipt of postal information about relevant HNU matters. Additional to the entered data, the HNU stores the date and time as well as the selected newsletters when signing up for the newsletter. This storage is used as evidence just in case that a third party misuses an email address and orders newsletter subscriptions without any knowledge of the listed subscriber. After signing up for the newsletter dispatch, the user gets a confirmation message that contains a link to the final registration (Double opt-in). When the user clicks on the confirmation that the newsletter is explicitly requested, the date and the time of the click is stored to be able to manage the evidence of the signing which required by the data privacy.
All data will be used exclusively for sending the subscribed newsletters and/or for postal delivery of information (see above). The data will not passed on to third parties. The consent of the storage of the data and its usage for the dispatch of newsletters can be canceled at any time. The cancelation can be done either via the link "Ich möchte mich vom Newsletter abmelden" ("I want to cancel my subscription from the newsletter"), which can be found at the end of every newsletter, or by sending a message to newsletter_anfrage(at)hs-neu-ulm.de. During each newsletter dispatch the statistics are recorded anonymously, how many recipients opened the email and how often users click on the single links.
The stored data as well as the content of the consent can be requested at any time via the email address newsletter_anfrage(at)hs-neu-ulm.de at any time: This request has to be sent from the email address, under which the user registered for the newsletter.
The newsletter for HNU members (students, lecturer and employees) can also be sent to HNU internal distribution lists, to enable them to send for example legally binding information (e.g. personal information or information, which is relevant for the exam) to all recipients. A removal of one's name from the appropriate distribution lists is not possible in this case.
The HNU will not accept liability for content or privacy policies of external sites.
Social media offerings
The HNU uses the communication possibilities of social networks. We would like to point out that a transfer of personal data to third parties can already take place by only clicking on links to these services, regardless whether you are a member of the social network. This data can be used technically to build a personal profile. The HNU has no control over the consequences. By clicking these links, you leave the area, for which the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences is responsible. Be sure to check the privacy policies and settings of the social media provider.
