HNU president is the new voice of Bavarian universities of applied sciences– election to the Board of Hochschule Bayern e.V. (Association of the Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences, UAS)
Professor Dr. Uta M. Feser, President of HNU, and Professor Dr. Walter Schober, President of the University of Applied Sciences in Ingolstadt, are elected to the UAS Board.
The members of the UAS, the Presidents of the Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences, elected their new Board at the 81st general meeting held in the Castle Vöhlin Seminar Centre. HNU President Professor Dr. Uta M. Feser was unanimously elected as the Chairwoman of the UAS. Professor Feser, who had steered the University Association for four years in the position of Deputy Chairwoman, will begin her two-year term on 15 March 2016, thus ensuring continuity. She will be supported on the Board by Professor Dr. Walter Schober, the President of the University of Applied Sciences in Ingolstadt, who was elected Deputy Chairman by a large majority.
In her acceptance, Professor Dr. Uta M. Feser thanked the Presidents of the Bavarian universities of applied sciences for the great trust they were placing in her and her Deputy Chairman. She announced that she would "employ a steady hand in moderating the balance of interests between the members and strengthen the common ground. At the same time, it is important to powerfully represent the association towards politics and society on the outside." Professor Feser also acknowledged her predecessor's extensive, long-term commitment. Professor Dr. Michael Braun, President of Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg, had not put himself forward for another re-election. "Professor Michael Braun was on the Board for eight years, four of them as Chairman. During that time of great change, he was a decisive, driving factor in the strategic development of application-oriented Bavarian universities. Our sincere thanks go out to him," said the new Chairwoman.
Professor Schober adds a new presence to the leading duo of the association. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Bavarian Science Forum (BayWISS). His work in establishing the cross-university exchange platform BayWISS had already earned him recognition before his election to Deputy Chairman. In his view, "a priority objective should be the strengthening of applied research and the promotion of young scientists". Professor Schober adds: "The universities of applied sciences have also achieved much in this respect in the past few years. With facilities that are well adjusted to their range of tasks, they can really make a difference as regional innovators."
