New partner university in Peru: the President of the HNU and State Secretary Bernd Sibler strengthen ties with South America
The HNU has a new partnership: Together with the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in the Peruvian capital Lima, the HNU supports cooperation between Bavarian and South American universities, which is sponsored by the State Ministry. HNU President Professor Dr. Uta M. Feser and State Secretary Bernd Sibler of the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and Art signed the cooperation agreement on 22nd March. The new partnership will intensify scientific cooperation, and an exchange programme will also be initiated for HNU students and teachers.
The agreement was signed during a delegation trip to South America with State Secretary Bernd Sibler. Together with 15 representatives of the universities in Eichstaett-Ingolstadt, Regensburg, Bayreuth, Passau and Bamberg, the Ludwig-Maximilian University, the University of the German Federal Armed Forces, the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and the Universities of Applied Sciences in Regensburg, Neu-Ulm, Weihenstephan-Triesdorf, Hof, Coburg, Ingolstadt and Deggendorf, the Secretary visited various networking events in Colombia and Peru to exchange information with representatives from academia, business and politics and to strengthen Bavarian-Latin American relations. To date, Bavarian institutions of higher education have 13 cooperation agreements with Peru. "This number will grow significantly," said Bernd Sibler. "Given an increasingly globalised world, the international networking of Bavarian universities is an important objective in university policy and the cooperation agreements fully reflect this goal. Students and scientists can benefit from internationalisation and thus contribute to the advancement of Bavaria as a centre of science."
Background information on the Bavarian-South American cooperation:
Bavaria supports the Bavarian-South American partnership through the Bavarian Academic Centre for Latin America (Bayerische Hochschulzentrum für Lateinamerika (BAYLAT)). As a competence and counselling centre for all Bavarian universities and universities of applied sciences, it promotes the networking of Bavarian and Latin American universities and research institutions in a variety of ways. The central theme is promoting the exchange of students, doctoral candidates and teaching staff. BAYLAT also advocates the creation of networks between Bavarian and Latin American universities and research institutions and the gaining of strategic partnerships. BAYLAT was founded in 2009 and is based at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen-Nuremberg. Further information: www.baylat.org
